Music

I'Haitian music has been with Haitians for hundreds of years. In 1955 Kompa was created. Kompa was created by a Haitian saxophonist named Nemours Jean-Baptiste. Kompa has a mix of jazz, blues, african drumming, electric guitar, vocals and horns.  Kompa is one of the most popular music genres in Haiti. Kare is a dance that is associated with Kompa. It is a two step rhythm that is usually performed as a partner dance. Kompa today is thriving with its biggest artists being Joé Dwèt Filé, Fridayy, Oswald, Kenny Haiti, and Rutshelle Guillaume. Sometimes like other music genres it mixes. This causes other good music to be created and new artists to emerge. Overall Kompa has evolved and will continue to evolve to greater heights.
