Haiti's capital is Port - au - Prince. Port - au - Prince has an estimated population of 1.2 million people as of 2022. The city lies on the Gulf of Gonâve. The Gulf of Gonâve is a natural harbor for the capital. Port - au - Prince name translated to English means “ Prince’s Port”. The regions surrounding the natural harbor are known as Hôpital which they were named after the filibusters hospital. In 1793 it was renamed to Port - Républication by the French colonizers, but was later renamed back to Port - au - Prince when Jean-Jacques Dessalines came into power. Haiti was divided into two parts. A kingdom and a Republic, with that the capital was also divided. The republic capital was named Port-aux-Crimes because Jacques was assassinated near there. Though Haiti has a lot of dry lands, Port - au - Prince is a mixed climate region. It varies from wet lands or tropical lands to dry lands.
